Maggie's David adopted!

I'm very happy to announce that Maggie's David was adopted by Peter M. of Redondo Beach!

David arrived to the U.S. about 2 months ago and his story is an inspiring one of a dog left lying on the street after a run-in with a motorcycle. Thanks to a couple good citizens in Taiwan and Maggie Chen with ARTT...David quickly found refuge and care which prepared him for a better life here in Southern California...and the eventual meeting of his human companion, Peter.

For those who met David...he could have doubled for Marley in the famous movie/book Marley & Me with an energy level and gusto for anything and everything that he touched. Merely operating within his nature, David demonstrated his exuberance for this new world in a manner which would challenge even the most patient of puppy owners! After several weeks of developing a routine and walking with volunteers, David started to find his mojo and soon was introduced to Peter.

Peter spent time with David (whom he now calls Gilligan)...a very appropriate name for this sweet goof ball...and found this dog quickly tugged at his heart strings. Gilligan happily went home with Peter, a devoted dog lover and one totally committed to giving Gilligan all he needs to reach his full potential. The updates so far have been great and Gilligan is finding his way in this world with the leadership and love of Peter. Peter told me "he's happy and that makes me very happy!"

Peter often throws dog parties where the humans eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and the dogs eat steak! Now that's truly a dog's life. I am very happy for David (Gilligan) and look forward to getting updates and pics from Peter to share.

This is truly a great success story and one of the many reasons why I'm so proud of this organization and the amazing work we do on behalf of homeless goldens wherever they arrive from!

Maggie's Dan has arrived!

Maggie's Dan, quite a dapper fellow, arrived at LAX earlier this evening and was greeted by Welcome Waggin'-ers Cheryl and Ira. He came in with a bunch of other dogs from other rescues. After getting sprung from his kennel at LAX, Dan did a little business and immediately started to play ball. Even after 12 hours of flight, he in great spirits and ready to play! The extremely handsome boy went home with Cheryl.

Dan wants to thank Maggie for rescuing him, Barbara D. for making arrangements to bring him to America, Miss Hsi Chih Yun for escorting him here and Cheryl for fostering him...what a great team!

What a handsome boy! We had a good night. He has already learned how to use the doggy door, no accidents, was very hungry (eating everyone's food... dogs, cats LOL)... and loves his tennis balls and toys!
So far, good with the little dogs. OK with the cats but needs supervision. Just a sweetheart who wants to be with his human when he's not playing with a tennis ball or toy. Maggie's Golden adopted!

Maggie’s Golden, our happy little puppy from last week’s big plane ride, went home today to be part of our own Sandy D.’s family! You may remember that Sandy lost both Lucky and Arliss last month, and there’s been a big hole in her heart waiting for someone to come along and bring some golden smiles back into her days. Little Golden is just the ticket, one of the happiest, friendliest little bugs we’ve met in some time. Sandy’s promised to make him earn his keep by working as a Pet Expo ambassador, in the great tradition of his uncle, Lucky.

Thank you to Maggie and the ARTT team for getting Golden safe and sending him to us, to the Welcome Waggin’ crew for welcoming this lovely youngster to the states, and to Aunt Lily who made him feel right at home until his new mom could come to claim him.

Safe arrival for Golden, Thomas & Luna

It was a lovely California day to welcome our three Taiwan golden refugees - Thomas (5 year old male), Luna (young female), and Golden (3 month old male pup). They all arrived safely and happy to feel the grass under their feet. The young pup, Golden, popped out of his crate showering Barbara D. with puppy kisses. Golden headed home with Barbara to be fostered in Riverside while Luna made her way to Hawthorne with Mariko. Thomas traveled with me south to Orange County where he'll be fostered in the next day or two. Much thanks to Marty F. for lending a helping hand today which was graciously appreciated.

All the dogs are lovely and got along well with each other!

The four dogs departed 6 hours ago and will soon arrive at LAX within 5 hours. We are very thankful to you, Rita, and M.J. for all the great assistance. Meet Melissa

Pls meet our Melissa, she was found in the park and very weak, after vet exam found that she was suffering from erlichiosis. Now she is under treatment. The vet guess she is used to be breed puppy for making money. Now she is not young so she has been abandoned in the park. Melissa is about 6~7 years lovely girl, could you help her?

Here comes Dan!

From Maggie Chen:

One of ART's dedicated volunteers saved a golden retriver in April on the way to the airport where she was helping ART's dogs check-in. The abandonded dog named Dan was in a very bad situtation. The rescuer sent Dan to the vet's for all the check-ups and took care of all the huge bills for Dan's treatment.

After a few months of loving care and efforts, Dan is now a changed dog. Attached is all the information forwarded by the rescuer. I will send you Dan's photos after the rescue right after this.

From Dan's foster home:

Dan was rescued in April 2009. He was found outside an abandoned house, sad and alone. According to the people who lives near by the abandoned house, Dan seems was abandoned by his owner, someone ever mentioned Dan was hitting by a car so he was not able to walk normal neither stand long. We took Dan out of that place and send him to animal hospital directly. Due to lack of nutrition and the bad environment, Dan was beginning to develop a skin problem and the weight was only ~55 lb when rescued.

Dan stayed in Animal hospital for treatments for 4 months long. Now Dan is a healthy and handsome dog. Good in walk and is able to run for his favorite – BALL. Dan gets along with other dogs well but we have not tried to put him along with cats or puppies. “Dan is a people dog actually, he loves to be around people very much”, the foster mom says so.

Dan does not pee or poo in his crate at all, a very steady dog, knowing the command “sit” ( in mandarin ) very well and like to shake hands with people very much. We do not know Dan’s history, but do know that he deserves a family.

Hope adopted!

Rita’s Hope went home yesterday with Rose and Mark of Valencia! Rose and Mark came to meet this lovely girl and Hope decided to take them home for good! Hope sends her deepest thanks to Rita and MJ, who gave her a second chance at life and helped her make her way to the USA. Hope is grateful to the Welcome Waggin’ team, who made her entry into the states as smooth as possible, and the west side team for all the walks and social time and care she received since her arrival. Special thanks go to Lauren, Rory and Chloe, who found Hope this lovely new home. And finally, special thanks to Kriss Harrigian, matchmaker and photographer extraordinaire, who made the introductions and sent Hope on her way!

Rita's Anna adopted!

Rita's Anna went home this morning with Jennifer and Craig of Santa Monica! Mariko tells us it was a 'love at first sight' meeting, and a very good match!

Anna owes her deepest gratitude to Rita and MJ who gave her the second chance at life that she never would have had otherwise! She also sends her thanks to the Welcome Waggin' team who made her entry into Los Angeles as positive as possible, and to foster mom Mariko who helped her complete her adjustment to the USA. Special thanks go to our 'running woman' Bethany, who scouted out this fine new home for Anna!

Luna is lovely girl and around 2-3 years old rescued from shelter by Rita and friends. She comleted treatment for heartworms a month ago. She'll be heading to the U.S. when a volunteer passenger is located.

Dear Barbara,

He is Mars. He was from animal shelter. When I first time saw the Mars's pictures on the website I was feel so shock and sad. We even can not recognized he is a Golden. He exhibited no hopefulness in the eyes, so we bring he out of shelter and took him to vet. The vet gave him a checkup, unfortunate his canine distemper test is positive. I've tried every treatment the vet suggested and now Mars is completely recover of distemper. He is still under treatment of skin problem and he has recover so well. Mars is around 4-5 years old and he is sweet boy. Could you take him when he has recover his health? I have attached some pictures of Mars when he in the shelter and some is just take 2 days ago.

Trigon: Memorial Tribute

Trigon was found by Rita and MJ in a shelter. He was missing a leg and emaciated, but still a sweet, friendly and loving Golden. Before long, it was clear that Trigon had contracted distemper and although they tried valiantly to save him, Trigon passed away. Rita and MJ made this lovely video to commemorate their journey with Trigon.

Maggie's Tony adopted!

Maggie's Tony was adopted just a week after arriving on U.S. soil today by Cindy and Tom P. of Seal Beach. 'T' as he will be called by his new family happily embraced his big new home with lots of space to run inside and outside and cool shady places to hang out. Within the first 30 seconds, 'T' greeted his new family as if he had known them all his life. New toys and treats greeted him and this happy boy was simply in heaven.

Much thanks goes to Maggie and ARTT and all the great work they do in Taiwan to give these dogs a second chance at life. For those who have read Tony's story - he was found dumped in a dam, skinny and alone. ARTT rescued him and gave him a fresh new start. Thanks goes to Uncle Ira, our Welcome Waggin' Ambassador, and the rescue crew who greeted Tony at LAX including Julie F. who fostered this boy. Tony spent a week with 11-month old GRCGLARescue Golden, Buddy, at Julie's. Julie and her beau, Jack, helped Tony prepare for his new life with his forever family...all the while forming a great relationship with Buddy. Thank you Daryl D. for doing the homevisit for this wonderful family.

Rita's Mickle adopted!

My new name is Mickey Walker. My foster parents, Russell and Roz, have decided that they want to give me a forever home. I'm so very excited and happy to become a part of this new family! Thank you to Rita and MJ for rescuing me from the streets of Taiwan. Thank you to the Welcome Waggin' crew who greeted me over a month ago and allowed me to pee on American soil for the first time at LAX Airport! What a relief! Thomas: abandoned and heartworm positive

I wondered if you heard of a devastating typhoon hit Taiwan on 8/8. Many crated dogs were drowned in the floods. Some were even left behind after the villagers had been evacuated. We rescued a golden retriver with a head of a Laborador abandoned in front of a breakfast store. Attached please see his photos. Do you think your organization can help this dog? He was heartworme tested positive and is currently under treatment.

Latte: found begging for food

When Latte was found, she was in bad shape but has responded well to her rescuer's good care. She's the victim of a poorly done surgical debarking procedure so her breathing sounds heavy and raspy at times. The vets in Taiwan have examined Latte and run tests for various diseases and have found Latte to be healthy. Once a traveling companion is located in Taiwan, Latte will fly to the U.S. in search of a permanent home.

Oscar: My New Life

Today Oscar's peeps (Lani and Kai actually) advised us that Rita's Oscar has signed a life-time contract to star in his new role, My New Life, co-starring his new family Judy, Osmany, Emily, and new Golden sister Butterscotch of Fountain Valley. After much tail wagging and playing, the contracts were signed and he was off to his new digs.

Oscar would like to express his forever thanks to his own angels in the world, Rita & MJ back in Taiwan for giving him this chance, GRCGLA Rescue for the opportunity of a lifetime, the Welcome Waggin team for the awesome greeting at LAX, and Sonsee and David for his port of refuge while on the journey to his forever home.

Oscar would also like to give two high-paws to Leslie W. and Quincy for the great advance scouting work they did. He would not have been able to accept this role without the excellent work of everyone at GRCGLA Rescue.

In anticipation of this event, there had a great going-away party for him last night starting with a walk on the beach, a dinner of chicken chow mein, lemon chicken, followed by deer antler bones for all.

This is Anna, she is from same shelter as Molly. She is very sweet girl and about 2 years old. We took her to vet and she is very health, but we found out her one leg a little lame. So we gave her X-ray and vet says her leg is no problem. She just need more exercise and it will be OK. If you can take her I will try to send her to LAX with Hope.

Oscar's first day

After an almost 2-hour wait for our precious boy Oscar, he made his dramatic debut last night accompanied by team leader, Ira, and Mariko, Sonsee and David. He decided to make his grand entrance to his waiting audience after a few stretches in his crate. Once leashed he made his dramatic entry to Mariko and Ira's waiting arms. He smelled the fresh Los Angeles air and you could just see him relax. Ira walked him around a nice grassy area so he could take care of some stage fright and he was a new dog. He made the rounds to all of us to give us a welcome sniff as if to say hi!

After a few minutes of signing autographs and posing for pictures, Oscar was whisked off in his limousine to his hotel in San Clemente. Sonsee talked to him the whole time and he just melted in the back seat. We got home just after midnight and took him for a short walk before bringing him to meet Lani and Kai. After meeting some new fans and a welcome drink, he settled down for the night, or so we thought. It turns out Oscar had a second wind and decided to get all of the toys out and spend most of the night snacking and playing.

I took over for Sonsee at 8:00 and tried to get him to eat some kibble, but he was too tired and decided to call it a night. Today he spent his day napping and exploring the neighborhood, posed for a few more pictures and met the neighbors, Justa, Chip, and Roxy. Welcome sniffs were exchanged by all. Tonight Oscar ordered boiled chicken and rice from room service.

Oscar sends his love and appreciation to his special friend Rita and says thanks for everything you did for him. Also a high paw to the Barbara D. and GRCGLA Rescue for making this possible, and the Welcome Waggin Team; Ira, Mariko, Sonsee and David.

Hi Denise,

Thank you! We are all just loving our sweet angel Hannah! You were right, she is a very special girl. We just got in and Hannah was able to explore her new house last night. She has made friends with every stuffed animal we have in this house. I do believe the girl has a stuffed animal fetish.

I want to tell you how lucky you are to have Cathy as a foster parent. She is such a wonderful and caring person. She made the transition so easy for us and Hannah! I honestly can not say enough about her. I promised her we would definitely keep in touch.

Again Denise, thank you so very much for letting us take in this beautiful, sweet and good natured Golden! We are thrilled.

Oscar is here!

From GRCGLAR volunteer Ira...

Our latest arrival from Taiwan, Oscar, touched down last night at LAX. Welcome Waggin'-eers Mariko , David, Sonsee and myself were on hand to for the meet and greet. After a couple hour wait, Mr. Chen finally emerged from customs with Oscar in tow. After some coaxing, Oscar ventured out of his kennel and took his first footsteps on American soil. He seemed a bit bewildered by it all, heck, who wouldn't be, but seemed to calm down a bit as he left with David and Sonsee, who very generously volunteered to let him crash at their place over the weekend.

Molly adopted!

The Lodens of Canyon Country fell under the spell of Rita's Molly today, and made her part of their family. Molly has some particular ideas about what her next best opportunity would be, and her foster mom, Mariko, managed to ascertain that the Lodens were everything she was looking for. Having a hard start in a faraway land, Molly now has a happy and secure life with the Lodens! Molly's gratitude to Rita and MJ is boundless; without their loving care and dedication she would never have had a chance! Molly also sends thanks to Team GRCGLAR.

Congratulations Hannah!

Rita's Hannah was adopted today by the Ohanian family of Calabasas. Hannah made her way to us a couple of months ago from Taiwan and has spent time under the foster care of Cathy T. Through a great diet and TLC, Cathy helped Hannah transform into the beautiful Golden on the outside that she already was on the inside. Hannah needed some assistance in the social graces and how to channel her amazing energy for a 7 year old. Through trips to the ocean and playtime with Cathy's pups, Hannah learned about life as a Golden in California and has embraced this new journey with gusto. The Ohanians will give her the special life she deserves and Calabasas is lucky to have this girl from Taiwan. Much thanks goes to Rita and MJ in Taiwan for rescuing Hannah and sending her to the U.S. and the volunteers of GRCGLAR for helping her on this journey.

David's unfortunate meeting with a motorcycle

From Maggie at ARTT...

ART rescued another retriver last week on 7/17. He was found lying in front of a convenience store. According to the clerk at the counter, the dog came to the store at midnight. He seemed very tired and couldn't walk very well. There was a mark of a motorcycle wheel on his body. It seemed that the dog had a traffic accident. The boss of the store planned to report the dog to the city pound but a customer suggested calling ART for help.

We sent David to the vet for a check-up. The vet found that David had a broken rib. There is no need to have a surgery but it will take about a month for David to get healed. David also had Ehrlichia and is currently under treatment. He is estimated to complete all the treatment in mid-August.

David has very sweet personalities, superly friendly, around 2 or 3 years old, neutered, 62 lbs, and all the other tests are negative. He is a handsome boy and I will take more of his photos. Attached are the photos taken on the day of his rescue.

This was Kai's (Maggie's Champion) 1st day at the Total Dog Gym and Spa with his physical therapist, Natalie.

Meet Rita's Willie

He was rescued from a Taiwanese shelter by Rita and MJ. On intake, he weighed only 14kg (that's about 31 pounds). His bladder was loaded with stones, which have been removed, and he's recovering well and gaining weight. Here are some videos of Willie; the third one is quite graphic and was done after the ruined parts of Willie's coat were shaved.

Gina is adopted!

Rita's Gina was adopted on Saturday afternoon by Betse and Bob and their Golden boy, Joel, another GRCGLAR alumnus from 2006. After many hardships and a very long journey, Gina's found a fine family and took off to start her new life in the South Bay. Gina sends thanks to Rita and MJ who made her safe and healthy and found her passage to the states, the GRCGLAR Welcome Waggin', who welcomed her to LA, Cheryl C. and family, who brought her home, the west side crew who took care of her this week, and to Kriss H. who facilitated her adoption meeting. She also sends special gratitude to Denise P., who scouted out this great home for her!

Mickle having fun at doggy camp!

Mickle got to ride to San Clemente with David and Sonsee. David says that Mickle set his head on his shoulder so the air conditioning vent blew on him. He gave both of them kisses too. It's amazing how they know they are in good hands and how thankful they are. Within 10 minutes of arriving at the pet hotel, Mickle was in the pool having a nice swim.

Gina loves water and tennis balls!

Gina is doing great. She is young and a handful. She will make someone who is committed to her training and exercise needs very happy. She is resting quietly now after a nice walk, having fun with water and tennis balls. Enjoy her pictures, HERE!

Molly makes some new friends

After arriving in the U.S., the first thing Molly did was to retrieve a rope toy! The boys seem to like their new friend. So far, she's fine with other dogs AND cats.

Welcome Gina, Molly & Mickle!

Our latest gang of three from Taiwan arrived this afternoon, all safe and sound. Gina, Molly and Mickle made their trip without a hitch. Even though the plane landed early, we still waited until around 2:30PM before they let the dogs out. From there it went very smoothly, the dogs got a little exercise, did some business and got a little something to drink before they were whisked away to their temporary lodgings.

Hi everyone:

It’s Kai, formerly known as Maggie’s Champion in my old life. I just wanted to give a shout out to my friends all over the world to let you know what I’m doing these days. As you may know, some wonderful people in Taiwan saved my life when I really needed help and took me to the doctor to fix my broken leg and pelvis.

When I was all better, they put me on an airplane and flew me to Los Angeles where I was met by a really nice lady named Cheryl, her husband and 14-year old son. She said they were going to take me to their house. When we got there, I thought man this is the coolest house I have ever seen. You know, I could live here… Cheryl had lots of friends for me to meet: Jackson, Moses, and China to name a few.

After three weeks of hanging with the Cook family, I got to meet my new forever family… Sonsee, David and their 7-year old golden girl, Lani. We all had a nice time talking and cookies were had by everyone. I liked them and I know they liked me because they kept petting me and then I went home with them.

These days I’ve gained a few pounds; spend time practicing my English; walking the neighborhood saying hi to Justa, Chip and Roxy, and taking nice walks at the beach with another friend, Denise, and her 3 golden boys, Moseby, Fletcher and Cooper. All of the sights and smells are just amazing especially since I had never seen a beach before.

Here at my house I have 3 different beds to sleep on and so many toys to play with. Sometimes, I just have to play with them all! My favorite activities are riding in the car, going for walks, and did I mention cookies? I love to eat but even though I have a ways to go I have to be careful to keep my waistline looking good. My Mom says I have this annoying habit of trying to steal food. It’s hard for me to understand that I don’t have to do that anymore but I will eventually learn that there will always be food here.

In two days, I will start my physical therapy and walk on an underwater treadmill, whatever that is…I hope they have cookies!

My Mom and Dad are so grateful for the people at ARTT and the wonderful Barbara, Denise, and Cheryl of GRCGLA Rescue for giving me this awesome new life in San Clemente. Thanks for all that you do. Oh, and to my old friends in Taiwan, I miss hearing your voices and I hope to see some of you again. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine now. LIFE IS GOOD!

Shelter rescues, Gina & Mickle

Gina and Mickle were rescued from an animal shelter in April, are doing well and hope to arrive at LAX with Molly in mid-July.

Hi Barbara!

Things are going great with Leo! He is such an wonderful boy! He is so full of love and we feel so lucky to share in that! He really enjoys going for walks in the neighborhood or to the park and he loves riding in the car. He is so happy and full of energy and enthusiasm! He loves retrieving the tennis ball, but rather than bringing it back to me to toss again, he takes it back to his bed where he can watch over it. He's very protective of his toys - lol. He's always receptive to new experiences and to meeting other dogs and people. He is so good-natured that everyone who meets him falls in love with him.

Lily is adopted!

Rita's Lily, not being one to dilly-dally, was adopted this afternoon by the Julie and Terry and their daughter. Having landed in LA less than a week ago, Lily quickly made up her mind to set up permanent roots here, picked a great family and off she went.

Julie and her daughter were in their front yard as Tom was bringing Lily out of the car. They instantly loved her and Lily showed off by rolling over on her back and soon was playing with a ball they had for her. Terry came home early from work and they all went into the house where Lily did a tour of her new home by carefully exploring every room. Her bed was set up in the living room and she seemed to know was hers. Before long she was settled in and found a spot under the table where they were sitting. She seemed to know that she found a home.

Lily will be ever grateful to Rita and MJ who found her and nursed her for months through her illnesses, found her a foster family that had the courage to bring her to the airport and say goodbye and located a passenger to take her here. Lily's also grateful to Mariko and Julie, who fetched her up at the airport, to Mariko and family who hosted her for her first nights in the states. Finally thanks to Tom, who made the intros and did the deal, and Ellen, who found Lily this lovely home. Thank you to GRCGLARescue for making all these little miracles possible.

Lily's first day in the U.S.

Lily with her travel passenger, Jason. Jason is a dog-lover and recently adopted a Golden girl of his own.

Hope: left in the street without food

This Golden girl was abandoned to the street by her owner. Rita and MJ took her in and, once at the vet's, found out she has erlichiosis. They are committed to her care and, once she's well, they'll raise funds to send her to the U.S.

Rita was able to secure a spot for Lilly on a flight this Wednesday.

Oscar: hit by car, left on the freeway

A new photo of Molly, the breeder. Lily, the dog recovered from erlichiosis will be accompanying her and a new dog, a young male, on a flight to LAX in the coming weeks.
